Henry A. (Henry Allan) Gleason (1882-1975) was a taxonomist, ecologist and administrator at the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG). His specialty was Melastomataceae. Fred Jay Seaver (1877-1970) was a mycologist whose specialty was the taxonomy of the Discomycetes. Elmer Drew Merrill was born in East Auburn, Maine in 1876 and died in 1956. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Maine in 1898 and his master's in 1904.
